ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER

Description

• Candidates must have at least High School Diploma.
• The job requires male applicants.
• Minimum of 3 years working experience is required for this position.
• Applicants must be 21 to 45 years old.
• Uses various hand and power tools in performing skilled and unskilled tasks as assigned.
• Checks vehicles and equipment daily for safety and proper operation; performs minor maintenance and adjustments as needed; checks oil and fuel and adds as necessary.
• Participates in heavy construction, maintenance and repair work as required, which may include preparing asphalt mix, preparing road surfaces for application, grading and paving roads, patching pot holes and sealing cracks in roads, installing culverts, installing and repairing underground pipes, repairing bridges, removing trees and other vegetation from alongside roadways and rights-of-way as needed, clearing ditches and drainage structures, etc.
• Checks roadways for hazardous conditions; reports conditions to supervisor
• Clears sides of roadways of debris, trees and other vegetation which impair visibility; assists with weed abatement activities.
• Maintains road signs.
• Assists with concrete work as required.
• Places and removes safety cones, barricades and signs at appropriate times to ensure crew safety; flags traffic as necessary.
• Performs emergency public works maintenance work as required.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment commonly used in construction and maintenance work.
• Knowledge of basic traffic laws and rules.
• Knowledge of basic safety precautions and procedures.
